Jackbox Games Browse Flow

The Challenge

Jackbox Games needed a design critique and visual design fixes for their upcoming subscription model, but the timeframe was limited to one week. The goal was to focus on high-need areas, particularly the browse flow, including the game list page and game details page.

The Solution

I performed a heuristic evaluation of the brand and page design templates, identifying accessibility concerns and designing fixes. The primary focus was on addressing design pitfalls that could disrupt the buying experience for customers. Ultimately, the goal was to improve the user experience and ensure a smooth transition to the new subscription model.

1.) Visual Design

For this project, I chose to focus on game purchasing flow, as this would be most relevant in showcasing my ability to design for the new subscription functionality they had planned for their product roadmap. Before jumping into that flow, however, i want to take some time to explain my reasoning for the visual design changes.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of two style tiles I created for jackbox Games; the first shows what I gathered from the current site (with some assumptions) and the second shows my recommendations.

2.) Game Catalog Page

After adjusting the visual design, I paused to reflect on Jackbox Game’s target user. For the purpose of this project I assumed that the person I am designing for has minor exposure to Jackbox - maybe they’ve joined in on a friend’s gaming session and they remember the games they had most fun playing, but this is the first time they’re thinking of buying their own games.

From the perspective of a relatively unfamiliar user, the current design is missing key functionality to understand the game categories, find the best product for their needs, and view the most accurate price for their platform.

Given these concerns, my focus for this page was improving scanability, and introducing search and filters.

3.) Game Details Page

The biggest gaps on this page are the lack of strategic hierarchy and also some minor repetition that gives a sense of clutter. The focus for this page’s revamp is architecting a page hierarchy that gets the user excited about the game and makes it easy for them to complete a purchase.
